Playing 5 or 7-a-side football has many benefits for your physical and mental health as well as to hone and develop key football skills. You can play for fun with your friends, train for weekend matches or even play competitive 5 aside games. The size may be different, but the thrill and entertainment will always be the same.
This type of football is played in small and compact spaces which helps improve skills such as control, dribbling, passing, creativity, and shooting.
Control: Small areas mean your touch must be perfect to hold on to the ball
Dribbling: There are only tight spaces so quick and efficient manoeuvres are needed to get through them
Passing & Creativity: It is always easy to hoof the ball into space, but these small pitches help players focus more on the ground and accurate passes to teammates which in turn helps their communication and coordination as a team.
Shooting: This one is for those who love having long shots or strikers. The goals are much smaller than 11-a aside, whether in height, width, or length. Therefore placement and power of the shots are very important when taking a shot to have a good chance of finding the back of the net.
These are only some of the key transferable skills you can develop when playing 5- aside when wanting to play 11-aside.
The games, whether with mates or competition, always provide the same intensity and demand as a normal football game. This will benefit your cardio exercises and your mental well-being by going outside and interacting with your friends or other teams.
These are only just a small handful of the benefits and fun of playing 5-aside but it’s almost guaranteed that if you play 5-aside yourself you’ll find even more!
